A great hike with the unique challenge of 4444 steps! It can be a little slippery in some sections so go at your own pace and wear some good shoes. You'll get a good leg workout and see some pretty nature views. I wrote a detailed hiking guide on my website if you'd like more information on how to get there and plan your hike (website on the photos)

Great walk in the woods today. Difficult level The walk is divided into 5 steps. The first one, which serves to warm up the muscles, goes from the car park to the start of the path. It is slightly uphill but easy. Then you get to the steps and.... Off we go. The second step is used to take your breath away (as they say in technical jargon). Good surface, the steps help to give rhythm. The slopes are immediately challenging. From 12% up to 20%. You can feel the climb, but your legs are still rested, so good. You arrive at the 1/4 of the way sign, you start to feel the effort.. The third step starts from here. In my opinion it's the worst trait. The surface is uneven, there are slopes of over 25%. You need to be careful. Here we met a mufflon (maybe, anyway it was brown/black). For a stretch you are helped by a via ferrata. You're halfway there, start thinking that it can be done😉. The fourth step begins, good ground, clearly visible steps. The slopes are challenging, but it is the least demanding section. It's already been 50 minutes since ... You go up the stairs, so the muscles are in full work. You arrive at the 3/4 sign... Hurray we are almost at the top, you can see the sun, the summit and the end of the forest. The last stretch begins, but wait to claim victory. In my opinion it is the shortest, but the slopes are really tough, it exceeds 30%, the legs are tired but the enthusiasm for having made it is stronger than anything.... Fly to the finish line. Ah, I forgot, along the path you will find various companies, animal sculptures, tabernacles of saints and madonnas and a stupendous natural panorama: waterfalls, woods, rock walls with the colors of autumn.... Then the descent, quite challenging but punctuated by steps. Absolutely worth trying

A real challenge to make one of the climbs with the most steps in the world, 4444 steps. Starting point "Cala del Sasso path 778" is located 2 km from the Carpanè train station. The finish line is Sasso from which you can take path 778B and go down "Il Sentiero delle Grotte" and return to the starting point

The 778 Calà del Sasso path with its 4444 steps is the longest staircase in Italy and one of the longest accessible in the world. It is a "road" born at the end of the 14th century and connects the hamlet of Sasso di Asiago on the plateau with the hamlet of Valstagna in the municipality of Valbrenta. It was once used to transport wood from the Asiago plateau 7 municipalities downstream and then transfer it to the Arsenal of Venice where the ships were built. Next to the staircase we find a "canal" where the lumberjacks slid the trunks downstream. Once they arrived in Valstagna, the woodcutters purchased flour, salt, etc. and then returned home along the same route with the goods on their backs. The difference in altitude is approximately 750 m for an average time of 1:30 or 2 hours, but it depends on the pace. Downhill the path can be slippery, especially in the winter months. In the long run, I prefer to go uphill.

Nice trail. It's not too challenging: I saw many families with children and even not-so-fit people climbing up without major problems. A bit monotonous as a path. You can return via path 778b, to change the type of walk a bit, but it is much more difficult and longer than taking the stairs down.

Very beautiful but very challenging trail. Suitable exclusively for people who have a certain physical training. It is still nice to walk even just a small stretch starting from Sasso but we recommend trekking boots and a sunny day and absolutely avoid post-rain days which make the rock path too slippery and dangerous.

Landscape that never changes, every now and then there are wooden statues, but apart from that nothing interesting. The walk is quite tiring with some wet and slippery parts. Upon arrival there are gazebos to stop at. You can get there by following Foza, once you reach the second bend there is a car park and the start of the route.
